KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pittsburg State University’s football team had a remarkable day as 18 members earned All-MIAA honors recently.
Leading the charge, quarterback Jackson Berry and kicker Austin Schmitt made the first-team All-MIAA list. Berry was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, showing impressive stats with 2,417 passing yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s also contributed 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns, ranking third in the MIAA for passing efficiency.
Schmitt, who achieved a fantastic 101 points this season, leads NCAA Division II in field goals with an average of 1.73 per game. He’s been a standout performer, earning MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week four times this fall.
In addition to Berry and Schmitt, several other Gorillas made a mark. Senior offensive lineman Drew Daniels, and junior players like running back Zahmari Palode-Gary and wide receiver Kuron Parchmon were named to the first team.
Palode-Gary led the MIAA in rushing yards, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Parchmon had 34 catches for 555 yards, making a significant impact on the game.
On defense, linebacker Steven Ward was a key player with a team-high of 88 tackles. Other defensive standouts included Reggie King and Jeremy Sharp, both of whom contributed significantly to the Gorillas’ defense.
