The Dutch government has paused its intervention in Nexperia, a Chinese-owned chipmaker based in the Netherlands. This decision follows talks with China aimed at easing rising tensions over trade and semiconductor supply chains.
In September, the Dutch officials acted due to serious governance concerns, especially as Nexperia plays a crucial role in supplying chips for the car industry. The initial intervention raised alarms, leading Beijing to block exports of Nexperia’s chips.
Now, the Dutch government believes it’s appropriate to halt its action. Vincent Karremans, the economic affairs minister, stressed the positive steps that China has taken to secure chip supplies for Europe and beyond. “We are optimistic about the cooperation moving forward,” he stated.
This move is vital as the global chip shortage has hindered various industries, from automotive to electronics. In fact, a recent survey by McKinsey shows that 79% of manufacturers have experienced disruptions due to chip shortages. A stable supply from companies like Nexperia is critical for business continuity.

A spokesperson for Wingtech, Nexperia’s parent company, firmly denied the allegations against Zhang, stating that no evidence has been presented and emphasizing that the ongoing legal challenges could threaten the continuity of Nexperia itself.
