Chris McCarthy, the former co-CEO of Paramount, is set to join NBCUniversal. This role will involve managing Taylor Sheridan, the co-creator of the hit series Yellowstone, who recently signed a significant deal with NBCUniversal.
This partnership between McCarthy and Sheridan isn’t entirely expected but makes sense. During his time at Paramount, McCarthy had a strong working relationship with Sheridan. Reports indicate that McCarthy’s new position is a standalone producing deal, collaborating with Sheridan’s partner, David Glasser, at 101 Studios.
Sheridan’s deal, which covers film, TV, and streaming, will kick off on January 1, 2029, after his current contract with Paramount expires in 2028. Glasser’s 101 Studios has also signed a deal with NBCUniversal which will start in early 2026.
Before his departure, McCarthy spent 22 years at Paramount. His exit came as David Ellison’s Skydance took over the company. Despite this shift, there were hints that McCarthy would continue his partnership with Sheridan.
While co-CEO at Paramount, McCarthy led Showtime/MTV Entertainment, the driving force behind several of Sheridan’s popular series, including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lioness. Sheridan’s growing success significantly contributed to Paramount+’s rise.
Their relationship was marked by a notable deal worth around $200 million that McCarthy signed with Sheridan five years ago. Sheridan expressed his desire for McCarthy to remain at Paramount, noting, “I don’t know of another executive that I could do this with.”
