Georgetown University and Manchester City Launch New Sports Master’s Program
Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies (SCS) has teamed up with Manchester City Sports Business School (MCSBS) to create a new Executive Master’s program. This innovative course targets professionals eager to excel in the rapidly changing global sports industry.
The sports industry is now worth over $600 billion. Recent trends include technological advancements and the growing popularity of women’s sports. As sports events like the World Cup become more complex, there is a pressing need for skilled leaders who can navigate this evolving landscape.
The 12-month hybrid program, launching in Fall 2026, offers both online classes and two in-person residencies. The first residency happens at Manchester City’s City Football Academy in the UK, providing students access to the workings of a top football club. The second will take place in New York City at the upcoming Etihad Park, the city’s first football-specific stadium, expected to open in 2027.
“It’s crucial to prepare leaders for the challenges and opportunities ahead,” says Bobby Goldwater, a veteran sports executive involved in the program. This course aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical experience, enhancing participants’ capabilities in areas like digital marketing, sustainability, and event management.
Spotting a growing interest in the sports sector, the program aims at mid- to senior-level professionals looking to advance their careers. Special features include guest speakers and career counseling, giving participants a chance to learn from top industry leaders.
As sports continue to evolve, educational experiences like this master’s program are vital. They equip future leaders with the skills needed to thrive in a world where the only constant is change.
For those interested, applications for the program are already open. For more details, check the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies page.
