Discover Why I’m Head Over Heels for ‘Hades 2’: A Must-Play for Fans of Action RPGs!

I’ve been diving into Hades II for weeks, and it’s been a wild ride. There’s so much depth in this game that each session leaves me astonished. The sequel to Hades, which dropped in Early Access in late 2024, builds on its predecessor. Both are roguelike games, where failure means starting over, but you carry over skills and weapons.

When I first started playing on my Nintendo Switch 2, I expected just another tough grind, but I was quickly captivated by the new features. There are fresh powers to choose from, companions to recruit, and mysteries waiting to be uncovered. I often found myself asking questions like, “Who is that character I can’t yet approach?” or “What awaits behind that mysterious door?”

Over time, it became clear that Hades II is much more expansive than the first game. You play as Melinoë, battling foes both in the Underworld and on Earth. However, the twist is that Earth can be lethal. You must die, learn, and improve constantly, creating a cycle of growth.

At one point, after many defeats, I decided to use “God Mode.” This option makes you tougher with each death. Though it felt like a cheat, battling gods isn’t easy, so I embraced the extra power. It helped me progress tremendously.

Like its predecessor, Hades II includes boons—random powers granted by Greek gods. Each run is unique based on the gods you encounter and their gifts. After several attempts, I formed favorites and also discovered that some boons I initially overlooked were actually game-changers. For instance, I’d dismissed Selene’s powers as unimportant, but when I finally used them correctly, they transformed my gameplay—making me feel unstoppable.

However, victory in Hades II doesn’t just mean defeating a boss. Each win leads to new story layers. After defeating Chronos, you have to face him multiple times, each battle revealing deeper narrative threads. It took me around 70 runs to reach the final conclusion, and it left me emotional. The way familial themes intertwine throughout the journey was deeply satisfying.

What’s fascinating is how Hades II reveals information at just the right moments. Characters and abilities become accessible when the game senses you’re ready. Each run builds on the last, creating a fresh experience.

Even after completing the main storyline, many challenges await. I still have quests to tackle, such as waking up Hypnos and finding the Fates—tasks that require further exploration of both realms.

I’m a casual gamer, usually not interested in multiplayer games. When I find one that grabs my attention, I go all in. Hades II captured my heart, and I can’t get enough of it. I’m already on the lookout for merchandise to commemorate this fantastic experience.

Hades II is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and MacOS.

With the growing popularity of gaming narratives and character development, Hades II sets a high standard for future sequels. It shows how innovative design can keep players engaged, fostering a community eager to share tips and discoveries, as seen on social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit. As gamers dive deeper into mythological lore, it’s exciting to think about how future titles will continue to unfold such intricate stories.
