Maui Rotary Clubs Unite to Deliver 5,400 Holiday Meals to Those in Need: Join the Cause with Maui Food Bank

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, six Rotary Clubs on Maui stepped up to collect donations for the Maui Food Bank during the Holiday Food Drive on November 15. Volunteers were at Safeway stores island-wide, sharing the message of giving during this critical time.

Al Weiland, assistant governor of the Rotary Coastal Clubs of Maui, expressed the commitment of the Rotary Clubs to combat food insecurity on the island. “Our goal is to make Maui a better place for everyone,” he said.

This year’s effort comes amid rising food insecurity driven by recent challenges, including wildfires and economic strain. The Maui Food Bank reported a staggering 60% increase in food purchases to meet the rising demand.

Lisa Paulson, CEO of the Maui Food Bank, emphasized the impact of this partnership. “Rotary’s leadership has come at a crucial moment, as more families seek our support. Their dedication will help ensure thousands of families receive meals this holiday season,” she noted.

The six participating Rotary Clubs that made this drive successful included:

  • Rotary Club of Kahului
  • Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui
  • Rotary Club of Wailuku
  • Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea and Kīhei-Wailea Satellite
  • Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise
  • Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset

These clubs not only collected donations but also raised awareness about food insecurity in the community.

Statistics show that food insecurity has been a rising issue across the U.S., with a recent study indicating that nearly one in eight Americans struggle to put food on the table. This local effort reflects a broader trend where community organizations come together to support those in need.

In the spirit of giving, the Rotary’s work highlights the importance of community engagement, especially during the holidays. If you want to learn more or support Maui families, you can visit the Maui Food Bank’s official website here.
