Kristen Bell and Brian Cox, along with other notable actors, are set to voice Biblical figures in Fox News Audio’s The Life of Jesus Podcast. Interestingly, both Bell and Cox were surprised to learn of their involvement when the project was announced.
The impressive cast also features Sean Astin, Neal McDonough, Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, and Julia Ormond.
Cox’s representative clarified that he had recorded audio over a decade ago but had no idea it would be reused for this podcast. He learned about it just a day before the announcement. Similarly, Bell’s team stated she was taken aback to find out that her previous recordings for the New Testament audiobook, The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible, would be included in this new series. She reportedly never consented to repurpose that material.
In response to these concerns, Fox News Media confirmed that Gulfstream Studios produced the podcast using the licensed material, claiming full cooperation from the involved actors.
Bell voices Mary Magdalene, while Astin takes on Matthew, McDonough portrays Jesus, Cox voices God, McDowell is Caiaphas, Rhys-Davies serves as the narrator, and Ormond voices Mary, the Mother of God.
The podcast will debut with its first 13 episodes on November 30, followed by three additional sets of episodes released on December 21, February 15, and March 29.
This highlights a larger trend in media where past works are often revisited and repurposed. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, about 65% of adults in the U.S. consume audio content regularly, driving demand for engaging storytelling in formats like podcasts. This growing interest reflects a shift in how audiences want to connect with historical narratives, blending entertainment with education.
