Discover How the Gita Guides Us to a Meaningful Life: Debunking the Misconception of Reading It Only at Death

Bhopal, Nov 23 (PTI) — There’s a common misunderstanding about the Bhagavad Gita. Many believe it’s something to be read only during life’s end. But according to Ashok Pandey, a leader from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), that’s far from the truth. He shared insights during a seminar titled “Discover the Arjun in You,” organized by the Indian Knowledge Tradition Department at Lakshmi Narain College of Technology in Bhopal.

Pandey, who is also a retired judge, emphasized that the Gita is a guide for living a meaningful life. He stressed the importance of embracing Indian knowledge and traditions for a self-reliant India, or “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

At the seminar, Mumbai-based Somaiya Vidyavihar University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Satish Modh, served as the chief guest. He spoke about the Gita’s teachings, especially how Arjun overcame his doubts with Lord Krishna’s guidance. “We have choices in life; we can be like Sanjay, Dhritarashtra, Duryodhan, or Arjun,” Modh pointed out. The Gita teaches us to navigate our challenges and find clarity.

Pandey also highlighted the reverence for women in Indian culture, viewing them as embodiments of ‘Shakti’ or strength. Respecting women, he noted, leads to prosperity in families and communities.

Such discussions around the Gita are receiving renewed interest. A recent survey indicated that 60% of young adults see ancient teachings as relevant for modern life. Many are turning to these texts for guidance in both personal and professional realms.

Ultimately, the Gita is not just an ancient scripture but a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone seeking purpose today. Let’s tap into that knowledge and use it to shape a better future.
