A woman from Wisconsin, Morgan Geyser, who once stabbed a classmate as part of a gruesome act inspired by the fictional character Slender Man, is now missing. Authorities reported that she cut off her electronic monitoring device and left a group home.
At 23, Geyser was last seen Saturday night around 8 PM with an adult acquaintance. Police are asking anyone who spots her to call 911. She was recently placed in the group home after being released conditionally from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. This release came after she spent time in the institute due to her guilty plea for attempted homicide in 2018.
Her attorney, Tony Cotton, expressed concern over her disappearance. He urged her to turn herself in, emphasizing that it would be in her best interest. He stated, “We don’t know the facts of what happened or who might have assisted her.”
The 2014 incident involved Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, who were only 12 when they lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park. Geyser stabbed Leutner multiple times while Weier encouraged her. Remarkably, Leutner survived this horrifying attack. The girls claimed they attacked her to become servants of Slender Man, fearing he would harm their families if they didn’t.
Slender Man originated online in 2009, created by Eric Knudsen as part of a meme. He quickly evolved into a well-known character in various media, including video games and films.
Meanwhile, Weier pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was also released from her psychiatric center in 2021. The chilling story of Geyser and Weier serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online influences and how they can affect young minds.
As of now, Geyser’s whereabouts are unknown. The case continues to raise questions about mental health and accountability, emphasizing the need for society to address both youth violence and the impact of internet culture.
