New Balance has launched a new store at Somerset Mall in Cape Town, marking a key step in its expansion in South Africa. This move is part of their plan to grow further by 2026.
The store showcases the brand’s Uncommonly Common Concept (UCC). This approach creates a welcoming space that focuses on performance, lifestyle, and community interaction.
Founded in 1906 in Boston, New Balance is now one of the largest footwear brands in the world. The company reported sales of $7.8 billion in 2024, employing around 10,000 people globally. The new store in Cape Town brings their total to 16 locations in South Africa. In 2025 alone, they added three more stores, marking a 25% increase in their retail space.
The store features products for both serious athletes and everyday consumers, with a special section dedicated to their USA-made items, showcasing quality and heritage. Located in the mall’s newly expanded wing, it combines modern design with technology and a strong community vibe.
Looking ahead, New Balance aims to open four more stores in South Africa by 2026, expanding its presence by 30%. They also plan to release the 1080v15 sneaker, featuring advanced cushioning suitable for both athletes and casual wearers.
More U.S. companies are investing abroad, with South Africa becoming a major destination. The stable economy, growing middle class, and increasing consumer spending make it an attractive market. Major brands like Microsoft and Amazon are already taking notice, boosting their presence there.
This expansion reflects New Balance’s trust in the South African market. By merging high-quality products with lifestyle elements, they aim to appeal to a broad audience while forging lasting ties with local communities.
