Eric Weissmann, a well-known entertainment attorney, has passed away at the age of 94. He died on December 15 in Denver, according to his granddaughter, Sara McCrea.
Weissmann’s impressive career spanned over 50 years. He represented big names like Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Wilder, and many others, including David and Keith Carradine.
In 2012, he started his own law practice after years as a senior partner at a Beverly Hills firm. He stated he was excited about the freedom to focus entirely on his clients. This change followed a merger that ended a firm that had been influential in Hollywood since the 1980s.
Born in Zurich in 1930, Weissmann and his family fled Europe during World War II, making their way first to Mexico City and later to Los Angeles.
Before starting his own firm, he held significant roles in the industry, including leading worldwide business affairs at Warner Bros. He also worked at Kaplan Livingston Goodwin Berkowitz & Selvin.
In 2010, Weissmann was honored as the Entertainment Lawyer of the Year by the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He also received the Distinguished Entertainment Leadership Award from the Anti-Defamation League.
In addition to his professional achievements, Weissmann shared his knowledge by lecturing at prestigious institutions like Harvard and Yale, and also taught at USC.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, his daughters, Jessica and Tiffany, and his granddaughter, Sara.
