Yashdeep Bhoge’s journey in archery is nothing short of inspiring. Hailing from Amravati, he recently clinched a gold medal in the individual category at the Asian Archery Championship 2025 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His next goal? To put India on the map again by winning gold at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Yashdeep is training hard for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Japan. “Winning at the Olympics is my dream,” he said, reflecting on his ambition. His victory at the Asian Championship was a long time coming. He picked up a bow in fifth grade, and now, he is hitting targets on an international stage.
His path hasn’t been easy. “When I faced Seo Mingi in the finals, I was down 4-2, but I fought back and won with 57 points,” he recalled. This resilience speaks volumes about his character. The championship lasted from November 5-15, and for Yashdeep, it marked a crucial milestone in his competitive journey.
His interest in archery sparked when he attended the School of Scholars. Thanks to two supportive sports instructors, he got his first chance to shoot arrows, even though the school didn’t have its own archery ground. Instead, they practiced at another school, and soon after, he gained traction, winning medals at national school tournaments.
After finishing high school, Yashdeep continued to refine his skills. He participated in two world-level university competitions between 2019 and 2024, furthering his competitive experience. “The guidance I received was invaluable,” he mentioned, acknowledging the support from the Sports Academy and university that helped him gain a strong foundation in archery.
Yashdeep’s training took him to the Tata Archery Academy and later to the Sports Authority of India’s center in Sonipat, where he honed his skills under a Korean coach, Lee Chae-un. “He really prepared me for international competitions,” Yashdeep shared, showing gratitude for the expert mentorship he received.
However, archery requires significant investment. The essential equipment can cost around ₹5.5 lakh, which his father initially funded. Fortunately, once he secured national-level training, the institution covered those costs. Now, as an employee of Indian Railways, Yashdeep balances his work with his passion for archery, with enough support to pursue his dreams.
Recognizing the challenges athletes face in maintaining top-notch performance, Yashdeep stated, “Sustaining fitness is tough, but it’s important to always think about improving.” His success at a young age has also drawn attention, leading various organizations to offer support for his training.
In April 2025, he was awarded the Shiv Chhatrapati Rajya Krida Puraskar by the Maharashtra government for being an exceptional athlete. His story is a reminder of the power of determination, community support, and the importance of chasing one’s dreams passionately.
