Seahawks Strengthen Roster: Welcome RB Cam Akers and Star Safety Quandre Diggs!

The Seattle Seahawks made some notable roster changes recently. They welcomed back former Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs, signing him to the practice squad. Alongside him, veteran running back Cam Akers joined the main roster.

The team also promoted cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O’Connell from the practice squad. To make space, they waived cornerback Derion Kendrick and placed linebacker Chazz Surratt on injured reserve due to an ankle injury.

Diggs’ return is especially significant. He previously played for the Seahawks from 2019 to 2023, making a name for himself as one of the league’s best safeties. He recorded 18 interceptions and made multiple Pro Bowl appearances. This homecoming adds depth to the safety position, especially with Julian Love and Ty Okada currently nursing injuries.

Diggs expressed his gratitude about returning, saying it was life-changing for him to play in Seattle. His experience will be valuable, particularly during this injury-ridden stretch.

Myles Gaskin, a running back, and undrafted rookie receiver Jimmy Holiday are also joining the practice squad. This move comes as George Holani deals with a hamstring problem, giving the Seahawks more options in the backfield.

Rookie defensive end Rylie Mills is on the way back too. After tearing his ACL last season, he’s been designated to return to practice. He was picked in the fifth round out of Notre Dame and can practice for 21 days before needing to be added to the roster.

Cam Akers brings additional experience to the running back position. A second-round pick in 2020, Akers has had a bumpy career but has shown glimpses of his potential, rushing for over 2,000 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns across his time with the Rams and Vikings.

These adjustments come at a critical moment for the Seahawks, who are looking to strengthen their defense and offense as they navigate the challenges of the season. With their roster evolving, fans will be curious to see how these changes impact the team’s performance moving forward.
