The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicked off on a chilly Thursday in New York City. This year saw the addition of new balloons and floats, including Buzz Lightyear and Pac-Man soaring above the streets.
Starting from Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the parade made its way towards Macy’s Herald Square flagship store. The temperature hovered in the 40s, but with wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph, it felt colder. Meteorologist David Stark noted that safety regulations allow Macy’s to fly full-size balloons only if winds stay below certain limits. In fact, there was only one occasion in 1971 when weather completely grounded the balloons.
Among the excited spectators was Megan Christy from Greensboro, North Carolina. Wrapped in a warm onesie, she expressed her joy at the festive atmosphere. “It’s not raining, and it’s just a great day for a parade,” she said, looking forward to the new Pac-Man balloon.
This year’s lineup featured an array of performances, showcasing popular artists like Cynthia Erivo, Conan Gray, and Lainey Wilson. Fans could watch talented dancers, cheerleaders, and marching bands, enhancing the festive energy. Moreover, characters from the new Netflix hit, “KPop Demon Hunters,” added a modern twist to the parade.
The event, broadcast live on NBC and Telemundo, also streamed on Peacock, drawing millions of viewers across the country. Social media buzzed with excitement, as fans shared their favorite moments and awe at the vibrant floats.
