Join Us for the Fourth Annual International Food Expo at NYSCI – A Taste of Global Cultures with Queens Together!

Queens Together is gearing up for its fourth annual International Food Expo on December 8, 2024. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the New York Hall of Science in Corona, featuring 40 local restaurants. Attendees can sample a range of dishes, showcasing the incredible culinary diversity of Queens.

Restaurants will set up stalls with their popular offerings. This year, favorites like Kam Rai Thai, Fuzi Pasta, and Rincon Salvadoreño will return. Exciting newcomers include Eaterniti, a Burmese spot, and Karachi Kabab Boiz, known for South Asian street food.

In addition to savory options, bakeries such as Kora and Masa Madre will provide tasty desserts. Tickets are priced at $100, but children under 12 can enter for free. Proceeds will support two new initiatives: “SNAP BACK” and “Adopt a Veteran.”

The “Adopt a Veteran” program aims to deliver freshly prepared meals to veterans recently discharged from the hospital, targeting the crucial first month of recovery. Jonathan Forgash, founder of Queens Together, emphasized the program’s importance, highlighting its first success with 106-year-old WWII veteran Horace Caratelli.

Meanwhile, “SNAP BACK” responds to impending cuts to the SNAP program, which could affect many families. It emphasizes partnerships with restaurants and schools to deliver culturally appropriate groceries to those in need. Forgash explained that this initiative allows students to bring home meals for their families, fostering a sense of community and support.

The Food Expo isn’t just about food; it’s a celebration of the culture that Queens embodies. “Food unites us during holidays and gatherings, especially in tough times,” Forgash noted. “The Expo brings everyone together to celebrate and raise funds to fight food insecurity.”

Experts in community support emphasize the link between food access and health. Research shows that food insecurity can lead to serious health issues, highlighting the need for initiatives like these.

The event has gained traction on social media, with many locals sharing their excitement. It serves as a platform for small businesses while also addressing essential community needs.

The International Food Expo is sponsored by Champlain Hudson Power Express and Hydro-Québec, both committed to empowering communities through food relief. Pete Rose from Hydro-Québec describes the event as “truly impactful,” underscoring the importance of supporting small businesses and providing for those who need it most.

This year’s Expo promises to be a vibrant event that reflects the heart of Queens while tackling food-related challenges in the community.
