Dodoma: The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has wrapped up a vital training session on environmental management. This initiative aims to boost the implementation of the Environmental Management Act of 2004.
Government officials from various ministries, councils, and institutions took part in this training. Held on November 27 and 28, 2025, in Dodoma, the two-day event focused on practical skills like conducting environmental impact assessments and creating sustainable conservation strategies.
Funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), this project seeks to enhance the capabilities of government employees to enforce environmental laws effectively. Dr. Careen Kahangwa, NEMC’s Manager for Special Areas and Climate Change, emphasized using this training as a springboard to elevate workplace performance.
This training also aligns with Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, which stresses the importance of protecting the environment. Participants benefited from expert-led sessions that fostered discussions about the environmental issues they face and how to address them effectively.
With recent statistics showing that only 30% of Tanzanian municipalities have effective environmental monitoring systems (source: Tanzania Environmental Audit Report 2025), this training is crucial. Improved monitoring and reporting can significantly enhance the enforcement of environmental laws across the country.
Overall, the skills gained during this program are expected to strengthen how local governments approach environmental challenges, ultimately benefiting both the present and future generations. As the world focuses more on climate change, such initiatives will play an essential role in creating a more sustainable future.
