Concordia Texas Women’s Basketball Achieves First Win of the Season
The Concordia Texas women’s basketball team snagged their first victory of the season, edging out UMHB with a close score of 58-56. On Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center, Samantha Ising shone with a career-high 13 rebounds, while Zoiey Jumawan contributed 13 key points off the bench to propel the Tornados.
This win also marked Brianna Marstaller‘s first victory as head coach and was a significant moment for the team, as it was their first win on UMHB’s home court since December 2024.
The game started slowly; the first basket didn’t occur until six minutes and thirty-four seconds into the first quarter. The Crusaders jumped ahead with a quick 6-0 lead, and they managed to maintain a 14-10 advantage into the second quarter.
Concordia made their move just before halftime when Taysie Trejo assisted Madison Martinez for a three-pointer, giving CTX a brief lead of 23-20.
In a competitive third quarter, UMHB surged ahead with a 45-39 lead with under nine minutes left. However, Concordia rallied in the final moments, executing a 15-5 run to pull ahead 56-52 with just two minutes remaining.
The Crusaders tied the game at 56 with 43 seconds on the clock. It was then that Ising snatched her fourth offensive rebound, drawing a foul. She stepped up to the free-throw line, making one of two free throws to put Concordia back in the lead. The team held firm defensively in the closing seconds to secure the win.
