EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell finally celebrated his first NFL touchdown, just two months after a memorable blunder. While playing for the Indianapolis Colts, he had a chance to score a 75-yard touchdown but let the ball go just before crossing the goal line. This mistake cost the Colts a win against the Los Angeles Rams, leading to a painful touchback.
On Sunday, however, Mitchell redeemed himself. He caught a 52-yard pass from quarterback Tyrod Taylor, helping the Jets beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-24. “Yeah, that definitely crosses the mind,” Mitchell said about his earlier mistake. “It was a growing point, a learning experience. This time, I just focused on finishing.”
Mitchell finished the game with eight catches for 102 yards—the first 100-yard receiving game of his career. He made crucial plays on the game-winning drive, contributing with two key receptions before Nick Folk kicked a 56-yard field goal as time expired. The Jets ended their two-game losing streak, moving to a record of 3-9.
Mitchell joined the Jets in a trade that sent star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts. Initially, many viewed Mitchell as an extra player in the trade, but Jets coach Aaron Glenn believed in his potential. “He was never a throw-in,” Glenn stated. “We wanted him here.”
