Coahoma Community College is excited to announce that Dr. Willie Lockett, Jr. will be the guest speaker at the Short-Term Programs Pinning Ceremony on December 2, 2025, at 5:00 PM at The Pinnacle.
Dr. Lockett is a recognized leader in healthcare education and the Director of Respiratory Care at Coahoma. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, serving as a Program Director and holding multiple certifications, including Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist. His focus on cardiopulmonary health showcases his commitment to community health initiatives.
His academic journey is impressive. He started with an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Care from Coahoma, then earned a Bachelor’s in Cardiopulmonary Care from the University of Arkansas, and a Master’s in Health Sciences in Organizational Leadership from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Jackson State University. His research focused on what keeps students in allied health programs, a topic that’s crucial for fostering future healthcare professionals.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Lockett’s leadership shines through. He has been a past president of the alumni association at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and currently sits on the Board of Trustees at Tallahatchie General Hospital. Additionally, he runs his own healthcare consulting business, Trained Healthcare Consulting, LLC.
Dr. Lockett’s accolades include memberships in the Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Eta Honor Societies, showcasing his dedication to academic excellence and leadership in health sciences education. He is married to Denise and is a proud parent and grandparent.
The upcoming Pinning Ceremony will recognize students completing vital short-term health programs such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and Phlebotomy. Dr. Lockett’s speech will inspire graduates, families, and faculty, emphasizing themes of perseverance and professional purpose.
Interesting to note, recent studies show a growing demand for healthcare professionals, particularly in respiratory care, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for respiratory therapists is expected to grow by 23% from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations.
