Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The state is gearing up to boost its IT and ITeS sectors. Over the next five years, Uttar Pradesh aims to double its share of IT exports, rising from 5% to 10% by 2030. This ambition was highlighted during a recent workshop where officials discussed strategies with industry leaders.
In the past six years, IT exports from Uttar Pradesh surged from ₹20,099 crore in 2018-19 to ₹47,856 crore by 2024-25. This impressive growth rate of 17% annually shows promise, especially as cities like Noida lead the charge. Meanwhile, tier-2 cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Varanasi are emerging as important players in the IT landscape.
According to Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary for Planning and Program Implementation, the state must plan carefully to not only reach 10% by 2030 but also target 16% by 2035 and 20% by 2047. He emphasized that Uttar Pradesh is home to a vast talent pool. “Most major IT hubs have a significant number of professionals from UP,” he noted, highlighting the need to harness this talent.
Awanish Awasthi, advisor to the Chief Minister, urged participants to provide actionable suggestions to enhance the IT ecosystem. He stressed that today’s efforts will shape a digital future for the state’s youth.
The ongoing dialogue between stakeholders and government officials is crucial. Anurag Yadav, Principal Secretary for IT and Electronics, mentioned that input from these discussions will guide the state as it strives for a technology-driven economy.
In this context, it’s worth noting that according to a recent report from NASSCOM, the Indian IT industry’s revenue is expected to exceed $300 billion by 2025. This indicates a growing global demand for tech services, further underlining the potential for Uttar Pradesh to carve out a significant niche.
Uttar Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a digital hub is not just an economic strategy; it’s a commitment to a brighter future for its residents. With collaborative efforts and a clear vision, the state is well on its way to realizing its ambitions.
