Grady Health System is set to launch a new outpatient center on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur, Georgia. This center, which opens this week, will be the first of two facilities in DeKalb County aimed at improving local healthcare access.

The Flat Shoals Outpatient Health Center will provide various services, including primary care, behavioral health, general surgery, and orthopedics. It will also feature essential diagnostic tools like CT scans, X-rays, and mammography. These services will streamline patient care by offering on-site labs that ensure faster test results.

Chief Administrative Officer Shannon Sale emphasized the need for closer healthcare options. He stated, “Having care closer to home is better for the community. We identified this location to fill gaps in access to care.” This approach mirrors trends across healthcare, where proximity to services is increasingly prioritized.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson celebrated the new facility, noting how it addresses long-standing access issues in the area. She mentioned the excitement around this project, which began discussions in 2022 and is now becoming a reality with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Local resident Cathie Davenport expressed her relief at having such a facility nearby. “It’s a blessing to have medical services close by. It means we don’t have to travel far for care,” she remarked.

With the growing demand for healthcare services, this center illustrates a shift towards more localized care. According to a recent survey from the American Hospital Association, nearly 70% of patients prefer healthcare facilities located near their homes. This trend is shaping how health systems operate, emphasizing community-centered approaches.

Additionally, this outpatient center is part of a broader movement in healthcare, where providers are adapting to meet the needs of emerging populations. Grady Health System plans to open a second outpatient center later this month on Candler Road, further expanding healthcare access in the region.
