Spotify Wrapped is back, and it’s got a fresh twist! This year, the platform introduced a feature called “Listening Age,” which estimates the age you would be based on the music you listen to. You might have seen your friends posting their results on TikTok and Instagram—it’s become quite the trend.
The concept is simple. Spotify looks at your streaming history and sees which songs you played the most. It then analyses where your tastes fit within the music released during your life. For example, if you love tracks from the early 2010s, Spotify might say your Listening Age is 30, even if you’re actually 27.
Marc Hazan, Spotify’s SVP of Marketing, explains that the idea comes from the “reminiscence bump”—a phenomenon where people are drawn to music that reminds them of their younger years. This year, users’ ages seemed to vary wildly. Some people found their Listening Age was significantly older than their actual age, leading to playful reactions on social media.
One popular meme joked about the implications of a much higher age. Comments on X (formerly Twitter) ranged from lighthearted to a bit cheeky. One person tweeted about someone with a Listening Age of 19 as if it were outrageous, while another declared that an Older Listening Age indicated a more sophisticated taste in music.
Interestingly, celebrities joined in. Karol G, for instance, ended up with a Listening Age of 51 because of her affinity for early ’90s hits, while Charli XCX was said to be “listening like” a 75-year-old.
Surprisingly, the feature isn’t just for fun. According to Hazan, Spotify observed that younger generations, like Gen Z and Gen Alpha, often enjoy a mix of genres from different decades. This blend allows them to engage with music in a way that’s different from past generations, making the Listening Age not just a quirky number but a reflection of shifting musical tastes.
Spotify Wrapped has seen immense success, with over 200 million users and more than 500 million shares in just the first day. Stats reveal that Bad Bunny was the biggest artist globally in 2025, racking up nearly 20 billion streams.
Overall, the Listening Age feature promotes conversations about music preferences and identity. Users react differently, creating a sense of community around shared tastes. It’s a unique way to reflect on how music shapes us—no matter what age we are.
