ROCHESTER, Minn. – Experience Rochester and the Mayo Civic Center have teamed up to launch a food shelf donation drive called “Give What You Can. Help Feed Our Community.” This initiative aims to support the Community Food Response and tackle hunger in the Rochester area.
Starting this Friday and running until Tuesday, December 16, community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food and essential household items. All contributions will go directly to the Community Food Response, a local organization run by volunteers that provides immediate food assistance to those in need.
Joe Ward, the President of Experience Rochester and Mayo Civic Center, emphasized the importance of each donation. “Every contribution makes a difference,” he said. “Rochester’s community spirit shines brightest in tough times. This food drive helps ensure everyone has access to nutritious food and basic necessities.”
Donations can be dropped off at the Mayo Civic Center’s Guest Relations Desk, located on the second floor. The collection will be open Monday through Friday from December 5 to 16.
Here’s a list of items that are especially needed:
– Canned proteins (like tuna, chicken, and beans)
– Peanut butter
– Pasta and rice
– Canned fruits and vegetables
– Cereal and oatmeal
– Seasonal items (like stuffing and gravy)
– Personal care products (like toothpaste and soap)
This drive comes at a crucial time. According to recent statistics from Feeding America, 1 in 8 people in the United States struggles with hunger. Local efforts like this can make a significant impact. Community engagement during the holiday season is key. Past donation drives in Rochester have shown a surge in participation, reflecting a growing awareness of local needs.
As we approach the holidays, supporting those around us can foster a sense of unity and compassion. Every small act of giving can help build a stronger community.
