MEQUON, Wis. — A pet food company based in Mequon has recalled a batch of its frozen dog food. The concern? Possible contamination with plastic.
Fromm Family Foods announced that around 300 cases of Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe, sold in 16 oz. chubs, are involved in the recall. The affected products have a best by date of 12/25/2026. These were sold in pet stores nationwide, including Wisconsin.
The recall was initiated after complaints about plastic pieces were reported. A representative from Fromm stated, “We have identified the error and have implemented corrective actions to prevent this in the future,” as highlighted in a release from the U.S. FDA.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, but the FDA has warned that eating plastic can lead to health issues for dogs, regardless of their size. Signs to watch for include vomiting, loss of appetite, or lethargy. In severe cases, ingesting large pieces can cause serious gastrointestinal problems and even blockages.
