New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) – The Centre’s Bharat 6G Alliance recently held a review meeting to discuss the progress of its seven dedicated Working Groups. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia led the meeting and emphasized the importance of collaboration among technology, spectrum, devices, applications, and sustainability.
Scindia noted that a strong spectrum policy will be key to India’s 6G strategy. He pointed out that the country has already begun significant spectrum refarming, with more planned. Understanding global trends will be crucial for shaping India’s long-term spectrum approach.
When it comes to devices, Scindia highlighted the need for a complete grasp of the design-to-manufacturing value chain. He shared that India’s market differs from that of Europe and the U.S., and urged for standardized frameworks to boost production while keeping costs low.
The minister underscored the value of joint innovation, calling for collaboration between entrepreneurs, academia, and industry. He drew parallels with countries like Germany and Japan, which thrived through cooperative development after major challenges.
Scindia stressed that India should identify 6G use cases based on local needs rather than just global models. He reiterated that the goal of the 6G journey is not only technological advancement but also the creation of a self-reliant ecosystem that benefits everyone.
The Bharat 6G Alliance is dedicated to promoting the design, development, and deployment of 6G technologies. This initiative is vital for India’s ambition to become a leading global player in advanced communications.
The Working Groups cover essential areas like spectrum, device technology, manufacturing, core technologies, and applications. Each group aims to ensure that the Bharat 6G Mission addresses all critical components in a coordinated manner.
Scindia laid out clear objectives for the Bharat 6G Mission: defining phase-wise goals, consulting with the alliance, identifying priority research areas, and conducting regular progress reviews. He called for India to build comprehensive value chains and manage challenges in smaller parts.
The minister concluded that India shouldn’t just follow global standards but should strive to create them. By aligning with international bodies like 3GPP and ITU, Indian innovations can gain global relevance, making it important for India to highlight its unique strengths in telecommunications.
Recent studies show that countries investing in 5G and anticipated 6G technologies expect substantial economic benefits, with predictions suggesting a $13.2 trillion contribution to the global economy by 2035. This context adds weight to India’s efforts, showcasing the potential impact of advancing its telecommunications sector.
In summary, the Bharat 6G Alliance is focused on fostering an innovative environment that can drive India’s digital future. With a solid roadmap and goals, the country is positioning itself to take a leading role in shaping the next generation of communication technology.
