Minneapolis leaders are voicing strong concerns after a U.S. citizen was wrongly arrested by ICE agents. The man, who goes by Mubashir, described a frightening encounter during his lunch break. He recalled being tackled by a masked agent as he walked into a restaurant.
“I felt like I was being assaulted,” Mubashir said. He explained he tried to show his passport to prove his citizenship, but was still taken into custody. A video of the incident circulated during a press conference.
After hours of detention at a federal building, he was finally released. “They made me walk in the snow back to where they picked me up,” he added.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara apologized to Mubashir, calling the incident embarrassing. Mayor Jacob Frey labeled the arrest a violation of legal rights and said he would coordinate with other mayors and governors to address this issue.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also expressed concern, highlighting that citizens have been detained unlawfully during the recent immigration crackdown. He urged the Department of Homeland Security to review these practices, stating, “This forcefulness and lack of communication cannot be tolerated.”
