Exciting News: CHS Senior Madison Johnson Awarded Full Scholarship to Denison University!

CULLMAN, Ala. – Madison Johnson, a senior at Cullman High School, has secured a spot at Denison University in Ohio thanks to a full, four-year QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship. This year, only 2,550 finalists were matched with one of the 55 participating colleges nationwide.

“I was shocked! This is truly a life-changing opportunity,” Madison shared. “I’m especially thankful for my dad’s support. He’s always encouraged me.”

She also praised her teachers for their investment in her future. “Mrs. Lunsford and Mrs. Nix have been incredible mentors. They helped me believe in myself. Mrs. Brumley and Mrs. Tankersley sparked my interest in health sciences. I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into practice.”

The QuestBridge program ensures that students like Madison receive not just early admission but also a comprehensive scholarship that covers tuition, housing, food, books, and even travel costs, without the burden of loans or expected parental contributions.

Since its founding over 30 years ago, QuestBridge has focused on aiding high-achieving students from low-resource backgrounds, irrespective of race or geography. According to a recent report, over 50% of QuestBridge Scholars pursue STEM fields, reflecting a growing trend of students interested in science and technology careers. The program connects these students with educational opportunities that can lead to fulfilling lives.

This fall, Madison plans to major in neuroscience and follow the pre-med track, with aspirations of becoming an anesthesiologist. Her dedication shines through her achievements, such as placing fourth in the state for HOSA Bowl last year and excelling in the Cullman High School Medical Academy. Additionally, she earned the title of AP Scholar with Distinction after taking six AP classes in her junior year and holds leadership roles as Vice President of the National Honor Society and a Citizen Promise Ambassador for the Liberty Learning Foundation.

Madison’s journey showcases how determination, support, and programs like QuestBridge can open doors and create opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
