HELENA, Mont. — In December, Montana state employees came together to donate over 7,500 pounds of food to the Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN). This effort was part of a friendly competition within the state government.
The competition started on the fifth day of Governor Greg Gianforte’s “12 Days of Giving,” running from December 6 to December 20.
Here are the top three agencies that made a big impact:
- 1st place: Montana Department of Commerce (1,383 items)
- 2nd place: Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (1,340 items)
- 3rd place: Montana Department of Administration (1,193 items)
Governor Gianforte expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the generosity of our state employees, we helped feed our neighbors in need this holiday season. Congratulations to the Department of Commerce for their outstanding effort!”
Since 1983, the Montana Food Bank Network has worked tirelessly to help those facing food insecurity. With a network of over 330 partners, they distributed more than 16 million pounds of food across all 56 counties in Montana in 2023 alone.
According to MFBN, every dollar donated can provide at least four meals for families in need. They have a list of essential food items to support their mission, including canned meats, peanut butter, and canned vegetables, among others.
