Unlock Your Future: Augusta University Debuts Innovative Jags On-Campus Internship Program

Augusta University is launching its first Jags On-Campus Internship Program, set to kick off in spring 2026. This program offers paid internships to undergraduate students who maintain good academic standing. Students can choose from 55 different departments across the campus.

“Augusta University is a learning lab for various fields like healthcare, technology, and business,” said Julie Goley, the director of Career Services. She believes these internships allow students to gain hands-on experience while confirming their career goals. This initiative aims to enhance their personal and professional growth.

The program offers a wide selection of internships. From communications and public health to athletics and AI research, students have plenty of options. Each intern will receive support from a mentor who will help guide their professional journey.

Interns will be evaluated midway through the semester and again at the end. The evaluations will focus on skills outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers and specific learning goals set at the internship’s start. Research shows that internships can improve job readiness. According to a recent survey by the NACE, 63% of employers prefer hiring candidates with relevant internship experience.

Amy Clemente, the internship and campus partnerships manager, highlights how internships create a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world practice. They allow students to build resumes and networks, making them more competitive in the job market.

Clemente noted that these opportunities can transform students’ academic experiences and future careers. “Internships can open doors that students might not have had access to before. We aim to remove barriers like transportation issues and the financial burdens of unpaid positions,” she said.

Later in the year, students can apply for fall 2026 internships. The program will feature a mix of returning partners and new placements, expanding available opportunities.

This program reflects a growing trend in higher education to emphasize practical experience. Recent statistics show that students who complete internships are 14% more likely to secure a job within six months of graduation compared to those who don’t.
