Jayden Daniels: Season Finale Insights | Eagles vs. Commanders Daily Updates

Commanders Shut Down Jayden Daniels for the Season

During a recent press conference, Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn confirmed that quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play for the rest of the 2025 season. “We’re going to sit him for the final three games,” Quinn stated.

Daniels is still recovering from a dislocated elbow injury. He initially got hurt during a game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 2. Although he returned later, he re-injured his elbow in a game against the Minnesota Vikings and hasn’t been cleared for contact since.

The Commanders recently broke an eight-game losing streak with a win against the Giants. They were hopeful Daniels would return before the end of the season, even though playoff contention was no longer an option. As they prepare to face the Eagles, a decision was made to prioritize Daniels’ health.

“It’s the best plan for him and the team right now,” Quinn added.

In the meantime, former Eagles backup quarterback Marcus Mariota will start against the Eagles this Saturday. This matchup is significant as it’s the first of two meetings between these NFC East rivals in just three weeks. The Eagles are looking to make history by winning back-to-back NFC East titles, a feat they haven’t achieved since 2001-2004.

Mariota has performed decently this season, completing 62% of his passes for 1,600 yards. He has thrown 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, achieving an 87.0 QB rating.

Jayden Daniels, picked second overall in the 2024 draft, won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year after leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game last season. Unfortunately, injuries have limited his playtime this year. So far, he has completed 60.6% of his attempts for 1,262 yards, with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions, maintaining an 88.1 QB rating in 2025.

In a survey conducted by ESPN, fans expressed mixed feelings about the Commanders’ current strategy, indicating a desire for a fresh start next season. The team’s commitment to player health is essential, especially considering how injuries can derail a season.

As the Commanders look to the future and rebuild, keeping players like Daniels healthy will be crucial for success. For more information on player injuries and their impact, check out NFL Injury Reports.
