Corey McCann, a senior at Meridian High School, is taking his football journey to the next level. On Monday, he signed to play at Clark Atlanta University starting this fall. The signing ceremony took place at the school’s multipurpose building.
Corey shared his excitement about joining Clark Atlanta. He feels a strong connection to the university. “When I first got there, I felt like I was at home,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaches, crediting them for their support in reaching this milestone.
Assistant football coach Austin Davis praised Corey for his resilience during a challenging season. Despite the Wildcats having a tough year with a record of 2-8, Corey’s positive attitude stood out. “He’s versatile, playing both offense and defense, and he’s worked hard to get to this point,” Davis noted.
Meridian High Principal Sherrod Miller highlighted the importance of celebrating students’ achievements. He believes Corey will excel at Clark Atlanta, both in sports and academics. “Good luck, Corey. Clark Atlanta is an awesome university,” he said, showing his support.
Cheyanne Trussell, the athletic director, reminded Corey that Meridian will always be a home for him. As he prepares for college, she advised him to stay focused on earning his degree while navigating the challenges ahead.
According to a recent study by the NCAA, only about 7% of high school athletes move on to compete at the college level. This makes Corey’s achievement even more impressive. With his determination and support from his community, he’s on a path to succeed. College football can also offer valuable internships and networking opportunities, which could provide insights into careers beyond sports.
As Corey takes this next step, he’s not just pursuing a passion for football but also setting an example for his peers about hard work and commitment. His journey reminds us all that with support and perseverance, goals can become realities.
