Friends, family, and fans filled the Fillmore this past Tuesday night for a heartfelt tribute to Pierre Robert, a beloved radio personality from Philadelphia. Known for his long-running show on 93.3 WMMR, Pierre’s passion for music shaped the city’s rock scene for over 40 years.
Pierre passed away at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy that touched many hearts. His loss came as a shock to listeners who grew up tuning in to his voice. During the concert, emotions ran high as attendees celebrated both his life and the culture he loved.
“It’s overwhelming to see all the love for Pierre,” said Brett Robert, Pierre’s nephew. Fans traveled from near and far, sharing stories of how Pierre impacted their lives. Many described his warmth and generosity, both on-air and off.
The night was filled with performances from bands that Pierre supported, like In The Pocket, the Hooters, and Shinedown. Each musician shared how Pierre’s genuine love for music inspired them. “If you met Pierre at a show, he would spend time with you,” recounted David Uosikkinen, drummer for the Hooters.
The event kicked off with a tribute from Pierre’s WMMR family, including close friend Matt Cord, who filled Pierre’s midday slot. Cord remembered his laughter, calling it contagious. “He brought joy wherever he went,” he said.
Beyond his iconic catchphrase, “Greeting, Citizens,” Pierre’s legacy lives on through the connections he made. Sarah Yearsley, a fan, remarked, “He was a warm hug. His spirit will always be with us.” Her son Logan added, “You’re only forgotten when no one remembers you. Pierre will never be forgotten.”
To honor Pierre’s giving nature, a portion of the concert’s proceeds will go to MANNA, a Philadelphia organization that provides meals to those fighting serious illnesses—an issue close to Pierre’s heart.
Such a significant turnout and expressions of love highlight the deep bond between Pierre and his audience. In a time when genuine connections are rare, Pierre Robert’s memory serves as a reminder of the joy that music and community can bring.
