Wizards of the Coast has made some notable leadership changes recently. They’ve brought in Paul Della Bitta, a former Blizzard executive, to lead their Digital Ventures gaming division. He’ll report directly to the company’s president, John Hight. Della Bitta has a rich background in the gaming industry, spending over a decade at Blizzard and also working with companies like Superplay, Molten Games, and Riot. Most recently, he co-founded Dreamhaven, where he focused on publishing.
Meanwhile, James Ohlen, the co-founder of Archetype Entertainment, is stepping back from his current role but will remain a creative consultant. He plans to shift his creative efforts toward the realm of tabletop RPGs. According to Abby Hodes, VP of corporate communications for Hasbro, Ohlen feels confident in the current team’s ability to finalize their project, Exodus.
Ohlen joined Wizards in 2019 after his retirement from BioWare. Archetype was announced in early 2020, with Exodus revealed at The Game Awards in 2023, set to launch in early 2027. Chad Robertson, Archetype’s other co-founder, described Exodus as foundational for Hasbro’s push into AAA gaming.
Hasbro is serious about making its mark in this space. Last year, they shared plans to invest $1 billion in various projects.
At The Game Awards 2025, they also revealed another title, Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons from Invoke Studios, which is also scheduled for a 2027 release. This showcases Hasbro’s ambitious plans for the future of gaming.
Overall, these changes indicate a strategic move by Wizards of the Coast to strengthen its presence in the gaming industry. With experienced leaders and significant investment, they seem poised to carve a robust path in the AAA gaming realm.
