Statesboro Food Bank Boosted by Generous Grant from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation

The Statesboro Food Bank recently received a generous $3,200 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation. This funding is aimed at helping local residents facing hunger.

The Nourishing Our Neighbors grant plays a crucial role in supporting community programs that improve access to food. It also offers vital nutrition education to address health risks associated with food insecurity.

Sheila Stewart-Leach, the food bank’s executive director, expressed gratitude for the support. “This grant not only helps us provide food but also funds upcoming nutrition education classes. We believe that by increasing access to healthy food and offering education, we can create long-term solutions for healthier lives in our community,” she stated.

In 2025, the Food Bank has already provided over 1.8 million meals to families in Bulloch, Candler, Jenkins, Evans, Screven, Effingham, Bryan, and Emanuel counties. Their meal box program serves about 160 families daily.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has been supporting families facing food insecurity since 2001. To date, they have donated over $25 million in grants to help communities access fresh food.

The need remains significant. According to the latest statistics, approximately 10% of Americans experienced food insecurity in 2021. Local initiatives like the Statesboro Food Bank are vital in addressing this issue.
