Empowering India’s Future: Why Ambani Believes AI Leadership Must Embrace Empathy in Tech Adoption

Mumbai: Billionaire Mukesh Ambani recently emphasized India’s potential to lead in artificial intelligence but highlighted the importance of empathy in technology. At the International Human Solidarity Day event, Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, expressed that while AI is crucial for progress, human compassion is vital too. “By combining intelligence with empathy, we can create a new model of development for the world,” he stated.

Ambani noted that Reliance is on the verge of addressing India’s energy issues, particularly through solar power and storage solutions. With India relying heavily on energy imports—around 80%—there’s an urgent need for sustainable strategies. He confidently declared that Reliance is close to transforming how solar energy can be utilized, asserting, “We can harness solar energy beyond a mere four-hour supply. It can help solve long-standing issues for India.”

He attributed this vision to RIL board member R A Mashelkar, who has been instrumental in enhancing the company’s focus on innovation. With over 1 lakh technical professionals among its 5.5 lakh employees, Reliance is staking its claim in deep tech and research. Ambani mentioned the creation of the Reliance Innovation Council and a new energy council to sharpen this focus. He described their approach as “Gandhian Engineering,” aiming to produce more with less.

Ambani also highlighted the success of India’s low-cost space missions, demonstrating the country’s capabilities on the global stage. “Indian companies should strive for quality products that enhance the lives of everyday people,” he added.

In recent years, studies have shown a significant increase in tech investments in India, with venture capital funding climbing to over $40 billion in 2021 alone. This rise is partly due to the country’s young and tech-savvy population, which aligns well with Ambani’s vision for innovation.

With the world increasingly looking to sustainable development, India’s journey under leaders like Ambani could set an inspiring example. It remains to be seen how Reliance’s efforts in AI and renewable energy can reshape not just India but potentially the global landscape.
