On December 9, I had the honor of being sworn in as mayor of Watsonville. As I stood before local leaders and neighbors, I felt a wave of gratitude and responsibility. Watsonville is a city marked by service, resilience, and endless possibilities, and I am excited to serve at such a pivotal time.
Looking ahead to 2026, I have clear priorities. I focus on economic growth, reliable infrastructure, vibrant parks, and the overall health of our community.
Civic health is vital. According to the 2020 National Civic Health Index, it reflects how residents engage in activities that strengthen our communities. This includes staying informed, volunteering, and working together to tackle challenges. Simply put, civic health shows how we support each other and our home.
The night of my swearing-in, that spirit was palpable. Leaders from nonprofits, elected officials, and community members filled the room, all dedicated to service. Their commitment fuels my hopes for Watsonville in the coming year.
There’s so much to look forward to in 2026. Watsonville stands united to support our hardworking immigrant community, address affordable housing, and promote our local agriculture and small businesses.
This year, we will showcase those who enhance our civic health. We aim to boost voter registration, improve public health, and expand recreational opportunities. These initiatives are interconnected and critical for a thriving community.
We also have exciting projects coming up. With funding from the American Rescue Plan, we will revitalize Ramsay Park, creating a welcoming space for families. We will refurbish City Plaza and celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation. Additionally, we are setting long-term goals for our community through the Watsonville 2050 General Plan.
None of this can happen without teamwork. I appreciate my fellow councilmembers for their dedication to public service, as well as the District Attorney’s Office for their support.
I owe a special thanks to my family, especially my husband, Ray. Public service is a family commitment. Since joining the City Council in 2022, I’ve become a mother twice, deepening my resolve to build a solid future for our next generation.
Let’s continue to engage, support, and care for one another as we move Watsonville forward. Wishing everyone a safe and joyful holiday season!
