Kole and Kalan Lind are brothers who have always supported each other. This weekend, though, they face off on the ice. Kole plays for the Texas Stars, while Kalan represents the Milwaukee Admirals. For their family, this moment is a big deal.

“It’s exciting for me and our family,” Kole shared.

Growing up in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, a town with just under 2,000 residents, they were inspired by local hockey legends, including Hayley Wickenheiser. This motivation helped Kole build an eight-year professional hockey career, including 31 NHL games and over 400 pro matches. Kalan, following in his brother’s footsteps, was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Kalan got called up to the Admirals on December 13. Just a week prior, he had no idea this weekend would be different. Facing his brother is new territory for him. “It’s a unique experience,” Kalan noted.

Even though there’s a seven-year age gap, the brothers share a strong bond. Kole chose Kalan’s name before he was born, which shows how close they’ve always been. Kole is the eldest of four siblings. His sisters, Tenelle and Taylor, also played hockey. Taylor even captained her team at St. Cloud State University.

Kole’s journey in hockey began in the Western Hockey League (WHL) before he was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 2017. He made his NHL debut on April 29, 2021. His true motivation, however, is not just career success. “My family is everything. They supported me since childhood,” Kole said.

Kalan always idolized his brother. “From learning to skate to talk, I wanted to do everything Kole did,” he remarked. Kalan played five years in the WHL before being drafted, paralleling his brother’s path. Both have seen their dreams in hockey come true.

Just last Friday, Kalan was called up to the Admirals after a road trip. He expressed surprise at the timing, while Kole was eager to see them play against each other. “I knew we had Milwaukee on the schedule before Christmas,” Kole stated.

While they may be rivals now, their brotherly bond remains strong. Both are determined to win this weekend. As family members cheer them on, the rivalry adds an exciting layer to their relationship. Who will claim the bragging rights?

As noted by sports analysts, sibling rivalries can often lead to amazing performances. The energy of playing against each other could spark motivation and skill. This dynamic is something to keep an eye on in future games.
