Los Angeles Chargers Strengthen Roster: Branson Taylor and Marcus Williams Take Center Stage!

The Los Angeles Chargers have elevated guard Branson Taylor and safety Marcus Williams from their practice squad for this Sunday’s matchup.

Branson Taylor, drafted in the sixth round this year, played 45 games and started 21 at the University of Pittsburgh. He was the team’s captain in his senior year and stepped up as a starter in 2023. Taylor helped his team allow only 23 sacks, one of the best records in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In his first six games of 2024, he played left tackle and supported an offense that averaged over 480 total yards per game. Surprisingly, he’s the first player from Pittsburgh to be drafted by the Chargers since 1990.

Marcus Williams is an eight-year NFL veteran known for his reliability. Originally a second-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2017, he made his debut with the Chargers last week, racking up four tackles, two of which were solo. Over his career, he has started 117 of 119 games across three teams: the Saints, Baltimore Ravens, and Chargers. Williams has notched impressive stats, including 20 interceptions and 469 tackles. He was recognized as an All-Rookie selection in 2017 and earned second-team All-Pro honors from Pro Football Focus in 2019 and 2021.

Williams’ journey includes remarkable performances at Utah, where he was a standout player, earning multiple accolades. His experience and skills will be crucial for the Chargers as they strive for success on the field.

In recent NFL news, the trend of elevating players from practice squads has become more common. Many teams are leveraging this strategy to bring fresh talent and adapt to injuries. With the Chargers making these moves, it’s a reminder of the depth and potential hidden in practice squads.
