Unveiling the Future: Hasselblad’s Ultimate Digital Camera Launch in 2025

Hasselblad took a different path in 2025, focusing more on quality than quantity. They released fewer products but made significant improvements to what they did introduce.

The standout product of the year was the Hasselblad X2D II 100C, launched in August. This camera comes with major upgrades and even a lower price of $7,399 compared to its predecessor. It features a 102-megapixel sensor, HDR capabilities, advanced autofocus using LiDAR, and excellent image stabilization. These advancements make it one of the best options for landscape photographers who prioritize image quality.

While HDR photography isn’t mainstream yet—since many people still lack HDR displays—the X2D II 100C paves the way for future innovations. Hasselblad’s YouTube channel showcases how stunning HDR photos can be with this camera. It’s lighter, equipped with a brighter screen, faster autofocus, and a new joystick for easier navigation. However, it’s important to note that its autofocus still lags behind that of competitors like Fujifilm GFX, and it lacks video capability, which may deter some users.

Despite these limitations, many photographers appreciate the X2D II 100C for its outstanding image quality and user experience. It’s quickly gained popularity, reflecting a broader trend among professional photographers who value top-notch gear that enhances their work.

As for new lenses, Hasselblad introduced only one this year: the XCD 35-100mm f/2.8-4 E. This zoom lens matches well with the X2D II 100C, offering a versatile focal length. However, its high price of $4,599 and large filter size might pose challenges for some.

Beyond new gear, Hasselblad also celebrated its heritage. In March, they awarded photographer Sophie Ristelhueber their prestigious Hasselblad Award, recognizing her exceptional work in photography. Around the same time, they also opened entries for the Hasselblad Masters 2026 competition, promising substantial rewards for winners.

In evaluating Hasselblad’s 2025 output, it is fair to say the company may not have released numerous products, but the few they did unveil were among their best yet. The X2D II 100C and the new lens received high praise for their quality and innovation, earning Hasselblad an impressive grade.
