Exciting News: Chip Lindsey Named New Offensive Coordinator for Mizzou Football!

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou’s head coach Eli Drinkwitz has named Chip Lindsey as the new offensive coordinator for the Tigers. With 28 years of coaching experience, Lindsey has previously been the offensive coordinator for several prominent programs, including Michigan, North Carolina, Auburn, and UCF. He also served as head coach at Troy from 2019 to 2021.

Lindsey is known for developing NFL talent, having coached players like Drake Maye from North Carolina, who was a first-round pick, and quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens. Drinkwitz expressed excitement about Lindsey’s fit with the team, highlighting his ability to organize and enhance player performance.

Before joining Mizzou, Lindsey played a key role in improving Michigan’s offense in 2025. He transformed a true freshman, Bryce Underwood, into a standout quarterback while the team averaged 213.2 rushing yards per game, ranking 15th nationally.

Lindsey shared his enthusiasm for working with Drinkwitz, stating that Mizzou’s commitment to football makes this role one of the most appealing in the country. He pointed out the impressive support and infrastructure available at the university, as well as the talented players on the team.

During his time at North Carolina, Lindsey’s offense stood out in 2024, averaging 32.3 points and 423.4 yards per game. The team led the ACC in rushing, largely thanks to running back Omarion Hampton, who earned All-ACC honors. In contrast, the Tar Heels had a stellar offensive performance in 2023, ranking seventh nationally in total yards and scoring.

Beyond his recent accomplishments, Lindsey’s coaching journey began in high school football, where he developed future stars. His college career boasts numerous records at Southern Miss and a successful tenure with Auburn, including a memorable 2013 season that culminated in an SEC Championship. Historical success in college football lies in the ability to adapt; coaches today face significant pressure to keep up with evolving trends. Lindsey’s ability to foster talent and implement effective strategies may well align with current demands in the sport.

Fans and analysts are eager to see how Lindsey’s experience will translate into success for the Tigers. In a recent survey by ESPN, 67% of college football fans believed that experienced coordinators significantly enhance a team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of Lindsey’s hiring.

This coaching change comes amid a transformative period for the Tigers, who seek to elevate their competitive standing in the SEC and regain their prominence in college football.
