Performance Food Group has named Scott McPherson as its new CEO, effective January 1, 2026. McPherson, who has been with the company since 2021 and became COO in late 2023, will succeed George Holm, who is moving to the role of executive chair.
In this new position, McPherson will also join the board of directors. Holm will assist McPherson with mergers and acquisitions, customer relationships, and the overall strategic direction of the company.
McPherson has a strong background in convenience retailing. Before his current role, he led the Core-Mark division and oversaw PFG’s convenience and foodservice segments, along with the Vistar snacking division. He believes there is significant growth potential for the company. “We’re well positioned for the future,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of investing in technology to improve efficiency and profitability.
Convenience retailing is a key focus for PFG, with about 42 out of its 150 distribution centers dedicated to convenience stores. These centers offer a variety of food programs, including options like Contiga Taqueria and Tru-Q BBQ. Since acquiring Core-Mark in late 2021, PFG has expanded its reach in the foodservice distribution industry.
The foodservice sector is seeing interesting trends. According to a recent report by IBISWorld, the foodservice distribution industry is projected to grow by 4.2% annually from 2023 to 2028. This growth can be attributed to rising demand for quick-service and convenience dining. Consumer preferences are shifting toward fast and easy meal solutions, making the convenience segment increasingly important for companies like PFG.
As competition heats up, experts suggest that companies must focus on enhancing their supply chains and adopting new technologies to stay ahead. An enhanced operational approach could mean streamlined logistics and better customer service, which McPherson aims to implement at PFG.
In sum, with McPherson at the helm, PFG is set to navigate the changing landscape of foodservice distribution. This leadership transition signals a commitment to growth and innovation in an industry that thrives on efficiency and convenience.
