Meet Ishika Sharma from Meerut. Coming from a modest background, she’s made waves in the world of sport. Ishika recently led India to a gold medal in roll ball at the 7th Women’s Roll Ball World Cup in Dubai from December 14th to 18th. She not only captained her team but also inspired many with her passion and resilience.
Living in a simple house in Shastri Nagar, Ishika’s family includes her father Sanjay, who works a private job, and her mother Akanksha, who runs a small shop. They’ve always supported her dreams. At just 22, Ishika’s achievement is a huge source of pride for her family and community.
Winning the World Cup
India faced the two-time champions, Kenya, in a nail-biting final. Against the odds, they secured their first gold. Upon her return, the entire neighborhood celebrated Ishika’s victory, a testament to how hard work can lead to remarkable results.
Her Early Days and Challenges
Ishika began her journey in skating in 2011. It was her coach, Ankur, who introduced her to roll ball. Despite the challenges, including a significant injury in 2022 after a serious accident, her determination never wavered. Ishika was advised to rest for a year, but she was back in action within three months, driven by her love for the sport.
In 2019, Ishika made it to the Indian World Cup team, where she tasted both success and disappointment. While the team won silver, the longing for gold kept her motivated. She trained harder, knowing that her time would come.

Roll ball might not be popular yet in India, but it boasts participation from over 50 countries. Ishika believes that with proper support from the government, this sport can gain recognition. She dreams of making roll ball more popular in her country.
