Richardson, Texas (December 23, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University forward Antonio Pusateri has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. His teammate, Alex Anamekwe, has also been recognized with this award once. Alongside them, Amondo Miller Jr. has received two Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Pusateri has been on fire lately, averaging 13 rebounds over four games. He even achieved a remarkable 21 rebounds in one match. The California native scored an average of 20 points, securing five steals and three blocks. The only blemish on their record this week was a close loss to top-ranked Washburn.
In an impressive game against Dominican in Las Vegas, Pusateri recorded a double-double, with 23 points and 21 rebounds. This performance marked the highest rebound total in the LSC so far this season and the second-highest in NCAA Division II. He later followed this with another strong showing, scoring 20 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in a nail-biting victory over No. 12 West Liberty.
So far this season, Pusateri leads the Chaparrals with impressive stats: an average of 15.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting 55.5% from the field and has accumulated 14 steals and 12 blocks. With eight double-doubles already, he holds the record for the most in the nation.
As the Chaparrals head into the holiday break, their record stands at 12-2 overall, with a 3-1 mark in Lone Star Conference play. They’ll resume their season on January 5 against St. Edward’s at 7:30 p.m.
It’s worth noting that Pusateri’s defensive prowess not only contributes to his team’s success but also sets a standard for aspiring athletes. According to a survey by the NCAA, effective defense is crucial in winning games, as teams with higher defensive stats generally perform better in the postseason.
