New Delhi, December 24 (ANI) – The 2024 batch of Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) probationers met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President emphasized the crucial role these officers play in managing the financial resources of the Indian Armed Forces.
She explained that their responsibilities cover budgeting, accounting, auditing, and ensuring transparency in defense spending. These tasks have a direct effect on the military’s readiness and the development of defense infrastructure.
President Murmu acknowledged the rapid changes in the geopolitical landscape and the need for fast, smart decision-making. With increasing complexity in business processes and a push for innovation, she urged the Defence Accounts Department to adapt and modernize continuously.
A significant focus was also placed on the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ initiative. The President challenged IDAS officers to encourage local production, enhance supply chains, and support domestic industries. This effort is vital for creating a self-reliant defense ecosystem.
In her closing remarks, she inspired the officers to be lifelong learners and remain curious. True service, she noted, is measured not by titles, but by how significantly they contribute to their institutions and society.
This meeting reflects an ongoing commitment to strengthening India’s defense framework at a time when budget transparency and local industry support are more essential than ever. As more data emerges, including a recent survey showing that 68% of Indians support increased defense spending on local products, it’s clear the focus on innovation and self-reliance is resonating with the public.
