Discover the New Photo Sphere-Style Panorama Mode on Pixel 8: Elevate Your Photography!

Google’s Pixel 9 has introduced an exciting Panorama mode, now also available on the Pixel 8 series thanks to a recent camera update.

This new mode boasts a user-friendly design with dots and prompts to guide users. It even includes a level indicator to help you achieve the perfect shot.

Interestingly, this feature draws inspiration from Photo Sphere, a previous capability that was removed in the Pixel 8. As you move your device, a small preview appears on the viewfinder, giving you real-time feedback.

By tapping the gear icon in the bottom-left corner, you can choose your capture direction—left, right, up, or down—making it versatile for different orientations.

The new Panorama mode works seamlessly with Night Sight. You can toggle it between Off, Auto, or On. Google suggests that you keep your body still while rotating the camera. This helps reduce “perspective shift,” resulting in smoother transitions and a cleaner final product.

On the technical side, this updated mode leverages the “Pixel’s HDR+ pipeline” to create high-quality stitched panoramas. This method captures more data compared to a video, enhancing the end result.

As of December 2023, the new Panorama feature has started to roll out to the Pixel 8 series. However, users with a Pixel 7 Pro have reported that it has not yet appeared on their devices. This might be a missed opportunity for Pixel 7 users eager to explore this feature.

According to a survey by TechRadar, 68% of smartphone users prioritize camera quality when choosing a new device. With advancements like the Panorama mode, Google is positioning the Pixel series as a strong contender in this space. Users are excited to see how these features stack up against rivals like Samsung and Apple.
