Co-skippers Matt Allen and James Mayo celebrated this redemption, having faced a setback a year earlier when their boat had to withdraw due to a torn mainsail.
This year’s race, marked as the 80th edition, proved pivotal. Allen, a three-time winner in previous years, emphasized the significance of bouncing back. “Last year was frustrating,” he said, expressing their desire for a turnaround. “It was unfinished business.”
Mayo shared his excitement, noting how their bond strengthened through last year’s challenges. “Despite the setbacks, we focused on finishing the job together,” he explained.
