Josh Brown, CEO of Ritholtz Wealth Management, pointed this out on CNBC’s “Halftime Report.” He noted that while big tech faced difficulties, investors found new opportunities in other sectors.
Many had warned that if companies like Apple or Meta stumbled, the whole market would follow. But instead, as these tech giants saw declines, investors shifted their focus to areas outside of tech.
For example, while stocks like Palantir and Broadcom surged by over 140% and 50% respectively, Salesforce faced a drop of about 20%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index rose by more than 21% this year, outpacing the S&P 500, which gained over 17%. Brown highlighted that despite the struggles of big tech stocks, the market still experienced record highs.
Investors weren’t limited to tech. Many turned to sectors like banking, healthcare, and gold mining. According to Brown, 2025 stands out because investors could prosper without relying heavily on AI stocks. “There was money to be made all over the place,” he said.
