Revolutionizing Defense: Bharat Forge Secures ₹1,662 Crore Contract for CQB Carbines from Indian Army – A Game-Changer for Pune!

Pune/New Delhi, December 31, 2025: The Indian Ministry of Defence has awarded a significant contract to Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) for the supply of 255,128 CQB Carbines (5.56 x 45 mm) to the Indian Army. This deal, worth Rs 1,661.9 crore, was finalized on December 30, 2025, with a delivery timeline of five years.

The CQB Carbine is a homegrown weapon, developed through collaboration between Bharat Forge, the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This initiative supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) movement, showcasing the dedication of BFL and its defense arm, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), to producing advanced ‘Made in India’ military equipment.

Bharat Forge is a leader in technology and safety-critical components, serving various sectors including automotive, aerospace, and defence. With facilities across five countries, BFL merges deep metallurgical knowledge with comprehensive capabilities in design, engineering, and manufacturing.

This contract reflects a broader trend in India’s defense strategy, emphasizing local production and reducing dependency on imports. According to a recent report by the Ministry of Defence, local sourcing in defense has increased by 35% over the past three years, highlighting the country’s focus on indigenization.

User reactions on social media have been largely positive, with many emphasizing national pride in producing quality defense equipment. Industry experts also note that such contracts not only boost the local economy but also enhance the technical capabilities of the armed forces.
