The Ministry of Environment, Climate and Biodiversity has made some important updates to the “Klimabonus Wunnen” and “Klimabonus Mobilitéit” financial aid programs in Luxembourg. Here’s what you need to know about these changes.

If you’re installing renewable energy systems like heat pumps or wood-fired boilers, those costs can be covered until December 31, 2025. However, if you’re renovating a building, you can extend that deadline to 2029.
A new initiative under “Klimabonus Wunnen” is planned for 2026, offering revised funding amounts and updated eligibility criteria. This doesn’t just benefit existing homeowners; it’s designed to encourage energy efficiency for everyone. The updated program will allow more flexibility with insulation materials and provide fresh subsidies for environmentally friendly insulation, green roofs, and facades.
The draft also reworks the aid for technical installations. Instead of varying rates, there will now be set amounts irrespective of the system’s size. This change is designed to make it easier for residents to access the help they need. Additionally, a bonus for replacing oil boilers in sensitive drinking water areas is included. And starting October 2026, specific help for Home Energy Management Systems will be available.
However, a few things will be phased out. Subsidies for solar thermal installations in new buildings will end in 2026 due to European guidelines, as well as support for wood-fired boilers.
On another note, the regulations for new sustainable buildings will continue under the existing scheme. Recent legislation has added photovoltaic installations and storage systems too, emphasizing financial support from the start of 2026.
Finally, the “Klimabonus Mobilitéit” program is getting modernized for private charging stations. The updated program will include new supports for charging stations that utilize advanced communication systems, effective from January 1, 2026.
