BGPD Teams Up with Parker Bennett Community Center for a Heartwarming Food and Jacket Drive!

The Bowling Green Police Department and the Parker Bennett Community Center are teaming up to support families this winter by collecting food and clothing donations. Their goal is to provide for those in need and ensure no one feels left out during a challenging time.

Kendra Woodard, a community resource officer with the BGPD, shared her excitement about this collaboration. “This is our first time partnering with the Parker Bennett Community Center,” she said. They are focusing on shelf-stable food items like cereal, canned goods, and juices, as well as jackets of all sizes for students.

The donations will be given to students at Parker Bennett, Dishman McGinnis, and Warren elementary schools when classes resume. Woodard emphasized the importance of community care. “It’s crucial for us to give back, especially during winter,” she noted.

Recent studies show that food insecurity increases during the colder months. Many families struggle to provide basic necessities, making initiatives like this even more vital. According to a 2021 report from Feeding America, an estimated 42 million people experienced food insecurity nationwide, including 13 million children.

The BGPD and Parker Bennett Community Center hope to reach as many families as possible. “Our aim is to make everyone feel special and loved, especially during the holidays,” Woodard added.

For those interested in helping, donations can be dropped off at designated locations. To learn more about ways to contribute, check the Bowling Green Police’s official Facebook page.
